In severe weather the daily question is “Is St Hild’s open or not?” For parents/carers it is important to have the FACTS, not hearsay, rumours on Facebook, or any other speculation. And the FACTS are what you hear directly from school, not from any other source.
OPEN OR CLOSED? How do we decide?
The decision has to be made each day, early in the morning, in the light of whether we will have sufficient staff in school TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THE CHILDREN – this consideration is paramount. Like most local schools our staff live all over the North-East, and some travel a considerable distance, therefore it is not just a question of the weather conditions in the immediate area. The decision is usually made around 7.45am and communicated immediately after this.
OPEN OR CLOSED? How do we let you know?
SCHOOLCAL - the vast majority of parents/carers have signed up to the SchoolCal communication app and will immediately receive a message if the school will be closed. If you have not provided us with an email address, or if you have changed your email address and not notified us, you will not get a message! To provide an email address, or to notify us of changes, contact the Main School Office on 01429 273041.
WEBSITE - every day during periods of adverse weather, the news banner (near the top of the main page) will say clearly whether we are open or closed. The brief message will include today’s date, so you can be assured that the website is fully up-to-date, and you are not reading a message which applied to the previous day!
Parents/Carers! Information regarding the closure of the school will be sent via SchoolCal and our website and we would appreciate it if parents/carers did not phone school for this information. If all our lines are handling enquiries of this nature this diverts several members of staff from other important duties such as liaising with staff trying to get to work, or arranging cover for any staff who are unable to get in.
