Over the weekend of the 11th, 12th and 13th of February 2022, St. Hild’s Year 11 pupil, Shannon Rochester, competed in this year's England Boxing National Youth Championships at the Barnsley Metrodome and came away as the champion in the Female Youth under 66kg weight category.

Shannon, who trains at the New Welfare gym, has been boxing since she was 9 years old. Shannon had to box her way through 2 preliminary bouts of three - 3 minutes rounds and a semi-final, of the same duration, on her way to a winning a place in the final. In the Final of the Female Youth under 66kg weight category, which involved female boxers of the 16-18 year age group, Shannon was awarded the bout over her opponent by an unanimous decision.

Following her outstanding performance in the competition, Shannon is now the proud owner of the Championship belt for the category, along with a commemorative award medal and Champion’s certificate.

This is Shannon’s second success at the England Boxing National Championships, in May 2019 she won England Boxing National Schools Championship, Female Class B, 54kg weight category.

On the 10th March Shannon boxed on her home show and beat one of the top girls in the country. She also won best boxer of the show. Shannon has now earned her place on the England Talent Pathway and will be boxing at the Tri-nations event in May.
